Qualifications – B.Sc. (Ibadan); Fellow of Chartered Insurance Institute – FCII (London); Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria – FIIN; Fellow of the Nigerian Council of Insurance Brokers- FCIB Chartered Insurance Broker.
Hon. Laoshe is a Chartered Insurance Broker and one of the leading insurance professionals in Nigeria with extensive experience in all areas of insurance – Oil & Gas, Property, Pecuniary, Transportation, Engineering, and Casualty – spanning 32 years.
His career started with an underwriting appointment in the National Insurance Corporation of Nigeria, NICON, in 1980 where he was a leading member of the team that created the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation, NAIC. Thereafter, he moved to the insurance broker sector starting with Hogg Robinson Nigeria, 1986 – 88, after which he joined Fidelity Bond of Nigeria, 1989 – 98. He left Fidelity Bond of Nigeria as Managing Director to take part in national politics.
Hon Laoshe has proven accomplishments in managing complex risks, such as the NNPC, Nigeria LNG, Nigeria Airways, and several industrial portfolios, usually as lead broker.
He left the industry temporarily between 1999 and 2003 to serve the nation as an elected Member and Principal Officer of the House of Representatives, where he sponsored the landmark Insurance Act 2003 and the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers Act 2003. He also sponsored other Acts for the Accounting and Marketing professions apart from being a leading voice for the organized private sector in the House.
Hon. Laoshe served on the Presidential Committee on the Harmonisation of Road Traffic Laws, Ministerial Committee on the Review of Insurance Laws and as the Chairman of the Interim Management Board of the Nigeria Reinsurance Corporation.
Hon. Lanre Laoshe was also involved in the design and placement of the Group Life Assurance scheme for employees of the Federal government since 2005 when plans for compliance with the Pension Reform Act 2004, was first initiated. Consequently, Leverage Insurance Brokers Ltd served as sole Coordinators of the scheme in 2008, and also authored the scheme manuals and a booklet on Frequently Asked Questions on the scheme.
In 2010 Leverage Insurance Brokers Ltd was one of the professional advisers and on its own served as interface between the various agencies of government to ensure that the cover runs smoothly and that premium budget is actually released.
